Analýza společnosti Omada Health zjistila trvalé udržení hmotnosti po užívání GLP-1

Omada Health recently conducted a real-world analysis showing that a significant portion of its members who stopped taking GLP-1 weight-loss medications were able to maintain their weight loss for an extended period. The study followed 816 members from its GLP-1 Care Track and found that participants, on average, experienced only a minimal weight change one year after they stopped the medication.

Key Findings of the Study

The analysis tracked members‘ weight at 6, 9, and 12 months post-discontinuation. The results showed minimal average weight change:

  • 0.03% at six months
  • 0.6% at nine months
  • 0.8% at one year

These findings contrast sharply with typical results from clinical trials, where participants often regain 11–12% of their lost weight. This difference suggests that the ongoing lifestyle support provided by Omada’s program may be the key to preventing weight regain. In fact, Omada’s data shows that 63% of its members either maintained their weight loss or continued to lose weight one year after stopping the medication.

The Role of Comprehensive Support

Omada attributes these positive outcomes to its comprehensive support system, which includes:

  • Continuous behavioral support: This helps members develop sustainable habits related to diet, exercise, and overall health.
  • Connected devices: Tools like smart scales provide real-time data, helping members track their progress and stay engaged.
  • AI-enhanced digital tools: These tools offer personalized insights and guidance, making the program more effective.
  • Care teams: These teams provide guidance on nutrition and activity, with a specific focus on muscle preservation, which is critical for maintaining a healthy metabolism.

The results challenge the common belief that weight regain is an inevitable consequence of stopping GLP-1 treatments. If confirmed by independent research, this analysis could significantly influence how healthcare providers and insurance companies support patients in their long-term weight management journeys, especially for those who need to transition off medication.
